Biodiversity

The expression "biological diversity" was firstused in 1980 by [Lovejoy 1980a] , [Lovejoy 1980b] and [Norse & McManus 1980] .

The term "biodiversity" itself was first coined in 1986 by W.G. Rosen during the planning of the "National Forum on Biodiversity", held in Washington DC. The proceedings of this meeting, [Wilson & Peter 1988] , brought the notion of "biodiversity" to the attention of a much wider audience.

The term "biodiversity" became more widespread following the 1992 Rio Earth Summit.

Recently, the term "biodiversity" has been a much used and abused concept.

[Ghilarov 1996] and [Harper & Hawksworth 1995] have further discussions on the origins and meaning of the term "biodiversity".
