For students admitted in 2023-2024 and thereafter

The programme will involve part-time study for a period of two years or full-time study for one year.

To successfully complete the programme students are required to pass at least 60 credits of courses including core courses (42 - 51credits) and elective courses (9 - 18 credits). All courses are weighted at 3 credits, except that 'Environmental Quality Management', ‘Research methods and report writing in environmental management”, “Directed studies in environmental management”, “Environmental management internship’ courses carry 6 credits, “Project” and "Dissertation" courses carry 9 and 15 credits, reflecting the workload involved. For Full-time students, they are required to complete 60 credits in their one-year study; for Part-time students, they normally take 30 credits in each year of their study.

The programme consists of ten compulsory core courses (42 - 51 credits) that provide a foundation in the field of environmental management. Students are required to select 9 - 18 credits of elective courses from a list that may vary from year to year. Relevant courses from other taught Masters programmes at HKU might be taken as electives with a prior agreement from both Programme Coordinators.

Notes:

# If a part-time student wishes to take ENVM8004 Dissertation, he/she must obtain a Grade B+ or above in ENVM7015 Research methods and report writing in environmental management by May of the first study year. Students must have submitted their dissertation titles and supervisor's names to the School of Biological Sciences by June 30 and are expected to commence work on their dissertation during the summer vacation between their first and second years of study. Students are also required to attend a dissertation research colloquium in their first and second years of study. They have to deliver presentations based on their dissertation project. The presentations will be assessed and this will contribute to the final grade awarded for the dissertation. Part-time students must submit their dissertation to the School of Biological Sciences on or before the last Friday in May in the second academic year of study, unless otherwise permitted or required by the couse coordinator(s). On the successful completion of the degree, a copy of the outstanding dissertation may be lodged in the University Library for public access.
