Habitat: larvae found in large ponds e.g. reservoir
General appearance: body large sized, up to 38mm long; head small with prominent knot-like projection on posterolateral margin; small rounded eyes on the top; labium large of peculiar shape with interacting spear-like teeth; spidery legs with some dark markings; wing pads reaching abdominal segment V; abdomen ovate with some cloud-like markings; dorsal spines on abdominal segments III - IX and lateral spines on segments VIII - IX
