Habitat: larvae associated with dense vegetation in muddy marshes
General appearance: body medium large sized, up to about 20mm long, covered with hairs; head rectangular with bean-like eyes, labium mask-shaped with 7 palpal setae; legs with markings on femora; wing pads extending to abdominal segment V; abdomen oval shaped with reddish brown on abdominal segments VI - X; dorsal spines on abdominal segments IV - VII (a tiny spine on VIII) and lateral spines on abdominal segments VIII - IX
