Habitat: larvae associated with dense vegetation in ponds
General appearance: body relatively medium sized, up to about 15mm long; head very wide, almost in abdominal width; legs with dark bands and long setae; wing buds reach to abdominal segment VI; abdomen oval shaped with remarkable pale midline and some dark granules on each side, dorsal spines on abdominal segments IV - VIII and lateral spines on abdominal segments VIII - IX
