General appearance: body cylindrical; head subcircular & presence of U-shaped frontal lines; mandibles asymmetrical; clypeolabrum (nasale) almost straight without distinct tooth; thoracic dorsal plates partly sclerotized; legs developed & long bearing numerous swimming hairs; abdomen segments with a pair of lateral projections (synapomorphical feature of Hydrophilini) and presence of membranous prostyli.
