Description

Size 3 - 5 cm
Description
  • A small frog with triangular body
  • Back creamy ground colour
  • Iris with black cross
  • V-shaped stripes appear on the back, forming a chevron pattern
  • Transverse ligh and dark brown banding on hind legs


Habitat and Ecology

Habitat

Forests, cultivated fields and ponds
Occasionally found under large stones on open hillside during hot summer.

Activity Nocturnal
Diet Ants and other insects.

Breeding period

April to September.

Larvae

Translucent with two dark lines on the dorsal side. Tail two times the length of the body.

Egg Large with capsule. Laid at the bottom of shallow pools.

 

Distribution and Conservation

Distribution

Common in New Territories (e.g. Tai Po Kau, Ho Pui, Lau Shui Hang) and Lantau Island (e.g. Pui O, Mui Wo), but restricted in Hong Kong Island (e.g. Tai Long Wan Village).

Distributed over central and southern China and Thailand.
