Description
  • A small-sized frog
  • Back yellowish brown
  • Numerous small granules and tubercles present on the back, flank and hindlegs
  • Two thick distinctive dorsolateral folds with swallen glands on the sides of the body
  • A large white gland present at the base of forelegs
  • Snout round and flattened
  • Eardrum conspicuous


Habitat and Ecology

Habitat

Forests; breed in pools, marshes, paddy fields and slow-flowing streams.

Activity Nocturnal
Diet Earthworms and insects.

Breeding period Winter to early summer

Larvae About 40 mm. Dorsal side greenish brown. Tail with small dark spots.
Egg About 1.5 mm. Laid in backwater pools of forest streams and clean still pools.

 

Distribution and Conservation

Distribution

Distributed in New Territories such as Tai Mo Shan, Sai Kung, Tai Po Kau. Widely distributed in central and southern China.
