Description

Size 4 - 6.5 cm
Description
  • A medium-sized frog
  • Back greenish brown to brown with several longitudinal rows of elongated and raised wrinkles
  • Snout with three to four vertical bands
  • W-shaped marking usually appear on the back
  • Some individuals with green or brown mid-dorsal stripe of various width
  • Toes are partially webbed


Habitat and Ecology

Habitat

Cultivated fields, ponds and marshes. Also found around slow-flowing streams.

Activity DiurnalNocturnal
Diet Frogs, ants and other insects.

Larvae About 30 mm. Back olive-green or brownish from above. Irregular dark spots present on back and tail. Two black bands appear on the snout.
Egg 1 mm in diameter. Dark brown. Cluster in group and floats on water surface or attached to plants.

 

Distribution and Conservation

Distribution

Widely distributed throughout the territories, but rare on Hong Kong Island due to loss of habitat.

Widely distributed in China, Japan, Southeast Asia and Pakistan.
