Brief Fossil History

1938 - Robert Broom found an adult cranium in Kromdraai. He named it Paranthropus robustus. Later named Australopithecus robustus.

1949 - Broom and Robinson made more discoveries at Swartkrans (eg. SK 48).

1959 - At Olduvai Gorge in East Africa, another robust australopithecine discovered. First named Zinjanthropus boisei (OH 5) by Louis Leakey. Later named Australopithecus boisei.

1960's - Richard Leakey found more A. boisei (e.g. KNM-ER 406) at Koobifora.

1986 - Australopithecus aethiopicus (WT 17000) discovered at Lake Turkana.
