BIOL3993 Directed Studies in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology (2024-2025)
Assessment Methods & Weighting
1st Semester
A research report of 6,000 - 8,000 words excluding figures and reference list (50% weighting) must be submitted by 2 December 2024, Monday (on or before 17:00). Please email your report in pdf format to Ms. Flora Chan via ppchan@hku.hk.
Students have to complete a formal write-up of the project in the style of a leading journal in their particular research field which their supervisor will select. The research report will be assessed by the supervisor and a second examiner. Students are also required to present their project in a seminar (oral presentation 15 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions and answers) tentatively scheduled on 5 December 2024, Thursday. This will be 20% weighting of the final mark and be assessed by the course coordinator or second examiner. Students will also be evaluated through continuous assessment (30% weighting) based on one-on-one discussions between the student and their supervisor, and planning and drafting of the dissertation.
