Description | Back glossy green, some individuals with black spots. Ventrals greenish yellow. Body long and slender. Scale smooth, but males have several rows of keeled mid-dorsal scales. Resembles Bamboo Snake (Trimeresurus albolabris), but Bamboo Snake has a more triangular head. |
Habitat | Broad-leaf woodland and secondary forest in mountain area. |
Behaviour | Primarily Diurnal. Slow in movement except when alarmed. Gentle and inoffensive snake; seldom bite when handled. Wriggle and defecated to defend. |
Diet | Earthworms, even the large earhtworms about 30 cm. Reported to take caterpillars and insects. |
Reproduction | Lays 2 - 16 eggs per clutch. |
Distribution | Common in New Territories and on Lantau Island. Uncommon on Hong Kong Island. Ranges from central to southern China, Taiwan, Northern Vietnam, Loas. |
